Innovations in technology have been revolutionising the way in which we take care of our skin with new treatments providing increasingly superior results that we once dreamed of! With so many advances in technology, understandably some people are cautious about trying these treatments. They can seem overwhelming if you're not sure how they work or if they could be suitable or even beneficial to your skin. Hydrodermabrasion is one of the new services now available and this article will take you through everything you need to know and what it can do for your skin.

I've never heard of hydrodermabrasion, what is it?

Hydrodermabrasion is a skin exfoliating treatment that treats the surface of the skin using hydrating fluids and at the same time buffing away dead skin cells. This versatile treatment can be adjusted to the unique skin needs of an individual by offering a range of exfoliation disks and treatment solutions.

So what's the difference between hydrodermabrasion and microdermabrasion?

Hydrodermabrasion is essentially an upgraded version of microdermabrasion, combining the exfoliation process with a hydrating skin infusion that leaves the skin not only smooth but hydrated and refreshed. Hydrodermabrasion affords all of the skin benefits of traditional microdermabrasion, with the added boost of whatever nourishing skincare ingredients your skin is in need of, at that particular time.

What can hydrodermabrasion be used to treat?

This technology has become popular within the skincare industry because of the sheer amount of ways that it can treat your skin. The main goal of hydrodermabrasion is to exfoliate and hydrate the skin, leaving it looking plump, youthful and hydrated. In addition to this it can also:

- Nourish tired and dehydrated skin

- Plump complexion by diminishing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles

- Improve acne scarring by treating skin congestion and acne breakouts

- Minimise the appearance of larger pores

- Refine thicker skin

- Improve the appearance of pigmentation from sun-damaged skin

- Promotes elasticity and collagen production due to the exfoliation of dead skin

How does it all work?

During treatment, a skincare specialist will use a device such as the HydroLux to buff away the dead skin cells using a diamond-shaped exfoliation disc. At the same time, a hydrating cocktail of ingredients that have been tailored to your unique needs is infused into the skin. The process takes between 30-60 minutes to be complete with 60 minutes being the optimal time to receive the best results. A clinician will determine what will work best for your skin's needs and will often recommend a series of treatments spaced several weeks apart. The results are cumulative so expect your skin to keep improving after each treatment.

Can the treatment be used on all skin types?

Although highly effective, Hydrodermabrasion machines are gentle enough to treat almost all skin types, including sensitive ones. Thanks to the fact that the fluid and exfoliating discs used can be customised to address many skin concerns it is a highly versatile treatment.

Any other details about the treatment I should know?

The hydrodermabrasion is actually more gentle than its cousin microdermabrasion, whilst offering all of the exfoliating benefits. It's non-invasive so you don't have to worry about feeling uncomfortable during the treatment. What's even better is that there are no side effects or downtime afterwards meaning you can get back to your usual activities straight away! It really is the perfect in-out skin rejuvenation treatment for busy people, you can easily schedule an appointment on your lunch break and return to work with refreshed glowing skin! What's not to love, right?
