Too Faced Melted Matte Lipstick Review: Swatches and Try On

Updated: Aug 5, 2019

I've never really tried any high end liquid lipsticks other than Kylie Cosmetics so I was particularly excited when I received two Too Faced Melted Matte Lipsticks as a present a few months ago. I held off trying them so that I could do a first impressions review for you. In this post, I will be reviewing this lipstick off of these categories.

I was gifted the lipsticks in the shades "Child Star' and 'Queen B'

Packaging

I like that the lipstick comes in a glass bottle because I think it makes it look al ot more expensive and luxurious. The gold text looked nice against the colour of the shade and I liked that there was a small 'Too Faced' logo on the top of the lid. The only issue that I had with the packaging is that it makes it hard to store the lipsticks because it is so wide. As someone who uses acrylic organisers I found that the lipsticks would not fit inside of them nor would they fit laying down in a drawer.

Finish

Image order: Child Star (no flash), Child Star (flash), Queen B (no flash) and Queen B (flash)

The lipsticks definitely dry down matte and are long lasting as it took me a while to wipe them off of my hand. The lipsticks did not feel drying when I put them on my lips and they did have a shine to them as you can see in the swatches above. The shades however, did not look very much like they did in the packaging once they were swatched and applied which could be a concern if they colour ended up being a very different shade to what you were expecting.

Texture

The lipstick was both creamy and smooth which made it feel very comfortable when I was applying it and after it dried down.

Scent

I did not like the scent of these lipsticks. I was expecting more of a sweet smell from the Too Faced product as I know that some of their other collections have been known to smell like chocolate and peach. The smell was subtle so it was not overpowering when I was applying the lipstick but it could have been a touch nicer.

Price

The product is reasonably priced at $21 compared to other high end liquid lipsticks that can be over $50 for less product than the Too Faced lipstick. It is good value for money especially if you purchase them in a set.

Application

Child Star Queen B

The applicator was small which made it easier to apply the lipstick with more accuracy. It was able to distribute the right amount of product across my lips without slipping out of my lip line. It is certainly one of my favourite parts of this product.

Thanks for reading and let me know what other products I should review
